- Receive invention disclosure information from faculty and staff.
- Evaluate inventions for patentability and market potential.
- Secure intellectual-property protection in patents, copyrights and trademarks.
- Identify and contact companies that have the expertise and resources necessary to bring an invention to market.
- Negotiate licenses and other intellectual-property agreements with companies interested in further developing UMKC intellectual property.
- Manage reporting and compliance obligations for federal, state and industry research contracts.
- Receive and distribute royalty money to inventors, departments and the university.
- Encourage a reinvestment in research and encourage disclosure of intellectual property.
- Provide educational training and resources on prior art assessment and technology transfer
